This workshop is not just about mask-making. The masks you create represent a quest for a deeper understanding of the self. By projecting your personality onto someone else’s face, you’re free to explore hidden depths and get to know more about yourself.

JLDianthus is a multimedia artist in the widest sense of the word. Recurring themes in her work are gender, ritual, sexuality, subculture, perception and seduction, mythology and social (in)competence. With the new characters that she thus develops, JLDianthus creates video art, visual poetry, photography, performances, installations and sculptures. She nearly always uses herself in her work, in which humour plays a large part, too.

JLDianthus deals with the ‘face’ as third dimension, landscape, mirror, mask. Artists use or hide their face to express themselves. In many cultures, masks carry great meaning: in Latin, ‘persona’ means mask. It concerns the total establishment of the self in relation to the other. The mask hides and the mask shows. For ONZIJN, JLDianthus gives workshops: applying the portraits to someone else’s face is an intimate process, whereby the creators project themselves.

JLDianthus (NL) is een multimediakunstenaar in de breedste zin van het woord. Thema’s die vaak voorkomen in haar werk zijn gender, het ritueel, seksualiteit, subculturen, perceptie en verleiding, mythologie en sociaal-maatschappelijk (on)vermogen. Met de nieuwe personages die hieruit ontstaan, maakt JLDianthus videowerk, visuele poëzie, fotografie, performances, installaties en sculpturen. Ze gebruikt zichzelf bijna altijd in haar werk waarin humor ook een belangrijke rol speelt.

JLDianthus is veel bezig met het ‘gezicht’ als derde dimensie, landschap, spiegel, masker. Kunstenaars gebruiken of verbergen hun gezicht om iets uit te drukken. In vele culturen heeft het masker grote betekenis; het Latijnse woord ‘persona’ betekent masker. Het betreft de totale bepaling van het zelf ten aanzien van de ander. Het masker verbergt iets en het masker laat juist iets zien. Voor ONZIJN geeft JLDianthus workshops: het aanbrengen van de portretten bij een ander is een intiem proces, waarbij de maker zichzelf projecteert.
