Can you tell us more about yourself and your work?
I am an engineer, studying at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture to become an architect.
I like making designs that surprise you, shake you up, but are also simple, functional and esthetic. Together with Ivo I’m responsible for the design and realization of a public meeting object on the forecourt of WOW.
Working in architecture takes a lot. In order to study a design or idea I work with models. Besides making technical drawings, the best way to communicate with others is by making sketches, which I enjoy very much. I make sketches of everything, buildings, landscape, people.
Why are you involved in WOW? What interested you?
My involvement with WOW is a result of my interest to create an environment and opportunities for others through the means of architectural designs. It fascinates me to design a simple object that leaves space for the people to fill in. The actors (the people) are more important than the setting. In the end there will be a lot of creative people living and working here: they will make the design come to live.
What is the most interesting part of your design for the WOW Meeting Object?
The most interesting part of the design is that it has two faces. It can be used in multiple ways. The people hopefully find more interesting ways of using the object than we thought of in the design process. I hope they will surprise us!
WOW opens this summer. What are you most looking forward to?
I’m mostly looking forward to see how the people take over the space. What will they do and what will they bring.
In the end there will be a lot of creative people living and working here: they will make the design come to live.
